Whew, in 5 days I’ll be transferring flights and leaving Australia! I finally have all my washing done, so I have clothes to pack and not just the few items I had laying around. How many times is too many to repack a suitcase anyway?
I really can’t wait to leave, as much as I will miss everyone! Ever since my first trip overseas, I haven’t been able to stop dreaming about my next adventure… After all, we live in a day and age where we have the freedom and expendable income to be able to travel. Especially as students, we have so many opportunities to be able to see the world. To learn about others, their language, culture and lifestyle.I honestly could not tell you which part of me is more excited: the linguist, striving to be able to see the results of my study applied to another culture; or the German student, eager to use my pretty average language skills to use, and to learn and analyse the language more!
Because let’s face it – as a linguistics student, I tend to analyse all language use, be it my own or that of the others around me. It’s not even conscious, just as a musician can’t help but analyse the performance of musicians around them, or as a photographer automatically frames a view in their mind’s eye. I’ve learned to perceive and understand the links between people and the language they use, and I think that is what excites me most about my newest adventure!
5 days to go!
